With the ban of 500 and 100 Rs denominations, 86% of cash in the economy is defunct for trade. E- Wallet companies realise they have struck a gold mine and are pushing hard for consumers to adopt their service. The cashless transaction is important for the economy since it helps curb black money and brings accountability. This helps the government to formulate better policies by able to leverage data analytics. It would also help the government get taxes as well as reliable consumption data, which even the private sector can use to reduce waste. This mode of transaction is also time-saving and also saves other resources such as space and physical infrastructure.
Friends, I am sharing a post I had published on 26th May 2015, on FB, arguing the merits of moving towards a cashless economy. It seems, after an interminable delay, the Government has bought into my argument and more importantly acted on my suggestion

It is woven into every industry and booming in the global market, and, important factors of production like human capital and modern activity possibly won’t take place without them. Relying on Big Data to improve the success of organisations, better decision making and marketing strategies help you create noteworthy value for the business.
For those of you who think that this is one of the most expensive Western pop music shows to be staged in India with the Silver zone tickets at Rs 20,000 ( almost £250 at depressed post-Brexit £ prices) you may just be right, although tickets were also available at Rs 5000. (I am told Gold Zone was at Rs 35,000) You might find the composition of the line-up in India for the Global Citizen concert in Mumbai, a little different from the New York concert held recently on 24th September. Read the Economist article Global Citizen Festival: a mash-up of music fans, bands and prime ministers. So here in Mumbai, you will have more actors than musicians. And fewer Prime Ministers, Heads of State and First Ladies. So don't expect the equivalent of Michelle Obama who graced the 2015 show in New York. We don't have one!
