I was always mesmerized by the fact about business schools that you enter as a different individual and come out as a completely different individual, one who is well trained to face the nuances of the corporate world.
An abode in the clouds! It is a place that cannot be described in words but a beautiful and memorable experience for every IIM Shillong student. Living far away from our home towns, inhaling not just pure air but the unexplored paradise amidst clouds along with the best and diverse minds of the country. The picturesque scenic beauty gives one a break from academics and rejuvenates oneself. Trekking on the hills helps me in my cardio routine and working on assignments & competitions has made me realize the importance and preciousness of time.
The journey started as I entered the doors of the college, naïve and ingénue, mesmerized by the beautiful lush green campus. Right at the steps of the college I found my seniors accompanying me for the admission process, which was carried out by the students of the admission committee, thereafter to my hostel room and also guiding me on the rules and regulations of the college. Through this I understood the actual meaning of a student driven college.
What makes my campus unique? Well one wouldn’t need to ask if she focuses on the Shillong part of my college name. Everything about this campus was the first in my life. As a matter of fact, it was this campus that I travelled to north east for the first time. I always heard people saying that north east that heaven in our country when is completely unexplored and the paradox is the reason it is still a heaven is because it is unexplored. But hearing or reading can’t express even an essence of the beauty of this place no matter how hard an author ties, there will always be something that you wouldn’t have witnessed until you came here.
The want to be the best is surplus is every existing soul, but very few get to be one. IIM Shillong has given me the opportunity to be the best business man I strive to be. The journey to the campus in clouds has been breath taking (pun Intended). Among the high hills and steep valleys lies the fountain of knowledge and experiences which quenches our thirst to perfection. IIM Shillong is the crown jewel of business schools in the north east of India. IIM Shillong is known for being one of the best sustainable campuses in the country, though the present campus is temporary, no slack is given to the implementation of lessons of sustainability that is taught with love and passion for the mankind.
Sitting on the foot of Garo Khasi Mountain range, Shillong the capital of Meghalaya facilitates another addition to the brand of IIM. This new among the oldest and old among the pristine has already crossed the 10 year milestone and is envisioning to make an international recognition for itself.
There are several reasons that make IIM Shillong unique, first and the most important is the batch size, we at IIM Shillong are a family, where everyone takes care of each another. This premier B-School which completed its ten years recently is now the oldest amongst the new and newest among the old set of IIMs. The college has a dedicated foundational course on sustainability which includes various live projects that help in solving real-life problems of the community, this helps the participants understand the importance and need of sustainable solutions in the times to come. The college was established with a motive to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the northeast, and the college stays by it. We at IIM Shillong take the society together by organizing cleanliness drives, placing dustbins in and around the campus to make sure we keep intact the beautiful campus and the area around it. IIM Shillong is famous for setting a benchmark when it comes to corporate competitions, which clearly communicates how practically the participants are taught about various business concepts by the eminent and experienced faculty we are fortunate to have. The college engages itself into organizing various activities like the nurturing minds, taking the vision of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam ahead by transforming the society and doing our bit to promote education for all. The college adheres to all the preaching of Dr. Kalam that he passed on to the participants while he was the visiting faculty at the college and tries to implant them to the participants in whichever way it can. The colleges give utmost independence to the students in organizing various events like the golf cup which is a flagship event of the college along with Khlurthama under the umbrella of various clubs and committees which helps providing real life experience of management and working with people to achieve something bigger than an each individual contributing to those events. It was Friday, 18th May, 2018. A day which I will never forget for my life. It was the day I got my offer letter for IIM Shillong. I was elated at first but soon anxiety started creeping in as I was apprehensive about how I will settle at a new place with new people, away from my comfort zone. With these mixed feelings, I entered the gates of IIM SHILLONG on the 21st of June. But within hours all my anxiety, all my fears were washed away. I found my people who became my family.
