Everyday people all over the world share several universal experiences, and the most common one of these is choices. Life is made up of choices. Some of which are fairly simple, as going on a walk or to continue with the sleep, while others are more complex, like buying a smartphone that requires us to weigh different options. A similar complexity was faced while choosing IIM Raipur over others from my post-graduation in management.
Choosing an MBA college can be one of the toughest decisions in one’s life until and unless you’re eligible enough for IIM A, B or C. Leaving the top 6 IIMs, the newer ones are having a neck to neck fight for being crowned as the best. I converted IIM Ranchi, IIM Kashipur and IIM Raipur on the first list. I was waitlisted in IIM Udaipur and IIM Indore, both of which seemed a distant dream. Talking about the ones I rejected, Kashipur and Ranchi, I had very little to choose from. I did not have the luxury of giving CAT 2018. Kashipur being near to Delhi NCR becomes the hot favourite of students of North India, also complemented by its location. Similar is the situation for Ranchi. I was very much tempted to join Kashipur so that I can be near to my family and friends. I wanted to be in an institute that can provide me with the stage or Launchpad to announce myself to the world.
With the advent of the morning light, comes the quiet and insistent chirping of the birds and we open our eyes to the peaceful surroundings that make up IIM Raipur. Away from the noise and pollution of the city, the institute is a haven of fresh air and calm surroundings; until that calm is broken by the panic-stricken cries of the students who have to meet unimaginable deadlines on any given day.
The classroom at any IIM is quite unique by itself. While regular classrooms usually involve the faculty delivering a lecture, and a few students asking doubts. At IIMs, with the incentive of marks for classroom participation, the classroom experience becomes quite a lively and interactive one.
One of the important learning from any b-school is the various perspectives to solve a problem, and this is possible only if the peers in the batch are from various backgrounds with different life experiences and professional experiences. This is one of the many aspects which make my campus, IIM Raipur, different from a lot of other b-schools thereby making it one of the most unique b-school in the country.
I do not remember when this dream of “The IIM” started, maybe it was in my third year of graduation. Achieving a dream is not as easy as said. A dream doesn’t come according to your capabilities. However, it makes you do everything to improve your capabilities and to achieve it. Then I started chasing it.
NITIE – also called mecca of Operations because as soon as you step into NITIE, you start to feel of why it is called so, because in all discussions, students prominently talk about optimization and reducing cost and inventory management and supply chain management and so on and so forth.
