An engineer or a commerce graduate: it doesn’t matter what one’s educational background is, when one is in a prestigious management school like IIM Udaipur it is all about what one gains from an all-together different exposure that a person gets from classrooms, professors, internship, case studies, hostel life, etc.
My third alarm rings for the fourth time, and I finally open my eyes and drag myself out of bed. I’ve probably hated waking up for morning classes since first grade. And here in my air-conditioned room with the pleasant dull glow of sunlight seeping in through the curtains, it is more difficult than ever before (especially because my brain keeps reminding me that I’ve only had four hours of sleep). I open up my windows and the blue sky, the lush green mountains semi-visible through the fog, and the sounds of many chirping birds remind me that it might be difficult, yes, but one could never hate it here. Mornings are an absolute treat at IIMU. So, I hurry to get ready and run over to the mess for a hearty breakfast, along with the other unfortunate people who were destined to spend the pleasant morning locked up in a classroom.
Situated in the City of Lakes, the IIM Udaipur campus is a scenic beauty even when it is only partially complete. The buildings made of multi-colored stones with the backdrop of the Aravalli mountain range is a sight to behold, especially during the monsoon season. The campus is well connected as it is close to Udaipur railway station and airport is only 4 hours away from the larger Ahmedabad airport.
I joined IIM Udaipur for my MBA, as a fresher and I was looking forward to my classes in Marketing there. It was exciting for me, knowing that the reference book for my marketing, the renowned Kotler, was also in the B.B.A curriculum. I was focused on marketing for my graduation itself and studied Marketing Management by Kotler in detail. I was hoping to get the theories, and the frameworks polished, with a few new examples. After the initial two sessions, where we were briefed about the Marketing Strategies, Marketing Research and all those 5Cs, STP and 4Ps, all of my perception about marketing changed. I was properly introduced to the scope, the bigger picture that it holds, how flexible this domain can get and what does this Concepts/Frameworks mean.
IIM Kashipur is situated near the foothills of Uttarakhand in a 200-acre campus. The campus is very serene and beautiful which helps the students in relaxing in their hectic schedules. People can be seen cycling around the campus. The perimeter of the campus itself is 4 kms which provide a good track for cycling/long walks/jogging.
IIM Kashipur has been established by the government of India in the year 2011 and since then it has produced around 600 management graduates. IIM Kashipur is first among its sister IIMs to have its permanent campus and thus has made the students learning experience more fruitful in the campus. Students can utilize their time in a better way by staying in the campus for 20 months. The campus has sports facilities, library, hostels with 6 single sharing rooms and a dorm in each floor, the night canteens etc. Residential program without a permanent campus is a difficult task. But here in IIM Kashipur, you can just concentrate on the program without any worries.
IIM Kashipur is first among the new IIMs which started in 2011 to shift to its new permanent campus. On reaching IIM Kashipur, I found that the campus was astonishing. Campus of IIM Kashipur is spread across 250 acres and it is having best facilities and fully operational. A permanent campus is always advantageous as, campus life which is the essence of two-year MBA programme.
One year, One Exam, One Target – IIM. I always dreamed of studying at an IIM, with the brightest minds in the country. After a year of hard work, followed by a long and exhausting admission process, it was finally time for celebration. I was offered admission from some of the best colleges in the country. My heart filled with joy and pride as I received admission offers albeit the joy soon turned into confusion. The ball was now in my court, I had to decide which college should I join. I did research about all the colleges beforehand thinking that it will make selection easier but little did I know it was going to be probable the most difficult selection to make. I spent days comparing these colleges on every online platform, talking to alumni, reading articles, checking social media accounts of these colleges and soon the choice started to seem not so difficult.
