Situated in the City of Lakes, the IIM Udaipur campus is a scenic beauty even when it is only partially complete. The buildings made of multi-colored stones with the backdrop of the Aravalli mountain range is a sight to behold, especially during the monsoon season. The campus is well connected as it is close to Udaipur railway station and airport is only 4 hours away from the larger Ahmedabad airport.
The research-based eco-system on the campus attracts excellent faculties from all over the country which ensures academic excellence, on which the institute is founded. Every activity on the campus is someway related to academic excellence. We believe anything and everything, including placements, is an end product of academic discipline and excellence. The core values of the institute go a long way in defining what we should do to achieve this.
Another unique feature of the institute is its support for entrepreneurship. The institute has an incubation centre which helps entrepreneurs, not only from the campus but also from in and around the city, bring forth their ideas and present them to investors. The entrepreneurship cell, a student body helps organise various events in this regard and persuade investors to listen to the ideas.
The institute’s orientation programme helps student seamlessly adapt to the professional environment in the institute and cope with whatever adversities one may face.
The campus has a unique culture of integrating students into decision making on almost every activity including the basic infrastructures. Its motto of Building U Together allows students to assert their influence on all major decisions. There are multiple clubs, committees and special interest groups to help in the decision making in every aspect of the student life; be it academics, placements, sports, functional areas, infrastructure, and entertainment.
Since the institute is still in a nascent stage, we all are helping it to grow with our little contributions. The initial batches created the constitution and we are currently helping to amend it for the change in scenario. Hence we all feel very connected with the institute and the core values it stands for. An important core value is that of transparency. Any member of the community, be it a student, faculty or staff, has access to the information regarding all the activities done by the institute and the clubs and the committees. Other core values of integrity and mutual respect is upheld by each and every member of the community. In fact, any non-adherence to these core values is taken seriously by the administration and student bodies and necessary actions are taken against offenders if there is rarely one.
The IIM Udaipur experience helps everyone grow alongside the institute into a better, stronger person. It helps to understand the importance of research in management education and provides the ultimate flexibility in choosing our future paths.
Which group of Aditya Birla would you like to work with?
I would like to work with Ultratech Cement Ltd. There is a lot of potential for infrastructure growth in India and cement is a major raw material for infrastructure industry. Hence there is a lot of future scope for the company and will need to maintain its position as one of the market leaders. To do this, the company will have to manage its operations and supply chain effectively. As a operations and supply chain management enthusiast, I believe this will help me increase my knowledge base and grow professionally. Its international market will also help me understand the complexities in managing a multinational supply chain.
