What Makes My Campus Unique - Neha Modi

What Makes My Campus Unique - Neha Modi

Planet-I, the most beautiful and crazy campus you can be in, is a place that makes you fall in love with it. Situated on the top of a hill, having its own rules and culture makes it actually another planet. It is one of the best management institutions in India with the largest batch size across all comparable institutions. Building networks with people from diverse backgrounds becomes very easy here.

Man, is a social animal; the gregarious nature of his is the only quality which separates him from other counterpart species. Despite of hailing from different backgrounds, culture, region, community we do intend to gel up with people of same mind sets and alike values. That’s the beauty of “being human”. An eminent B school is a perfect place to unearth such people into your ambit. A few of them are described as per my perspective (solely):

I remember coming to the campus full of enthusiasm about the new life. It was always the dream to pursue an MBA degree from one of the top management institutes in India. Been living the dream from one year and still can’t believe that I’m at an IIM.

It is 3 am in the morning. Having survived four lectures, one guest lecture and after submitting three assignments, it was time to go back to the hostel, the “C9 Hostel”. For those of you who are not aware, IIFT Delhi has an all boys’ hostel called C9 Hostel, which is located outside of main campus. The mundane promenade between C9 and the main campus does provide oneself with not so mundane of an experience. With high rise trees on both the sides of the road and with virtually no presence of motor vehicles, the ten-minute walk does make you feel and believe that you aren’t staying in the most bustling areas of South Delhi.

During 2014 summers, I was about to make a very important decision of my life. Whether to join the herd and join an engineering college, which is the most obvious choice if you want to be an ideal son, or pursue something in humanities, which I actually wanted. Eventually I ended up choosing none of the above and enrolled for the Integrated Programme in Management at IIM Indore. I was a bit sceptical since it was not a relatively new course. But thanks to the course structure, which provided me a chance to learn a mix of academic fields, it was a risk I was willing to take.

I have been asked this question ever since I got in. Initially, even I wasn’t sure about what made IIM Indore so different. All I knew were the pseudonyms for it: Castle on the Hill and Planet-I. Then came the time to set foot inside the beautiful campus, with winding roads and lush greenery. I was so in love with it, I wasn’t even sure if anything could baffle my mind any more. But I was proved wrong the very next day. We had a session at our cricket ground. Our batch of 450 filled it completely. I was stunned at seeing so many people. The batch size wasn’t a news but it was just a number till that point in time. You get to hear or read all the benefits of having a large batch like a huge alumni network. But that moment, seeing all the 450 people around you fills you with all sorts of emotions. One minute you visualize the hundreds of friendships that you can build, and the next minute you feel dreaded that you have to compete with these 450 people. That was the only moment I was afraid; afraid of getting lost. But the campus is so nourishing, you don’t feel lost. You never feel lonely because you can never be truly alone. You are always surrounded by people, plants and animals. As time passed by, I made several friends, most of whom I hope to be in touch with for the rest of my life.
