Under The TISS Umbrella!
Frank Zappa is said to have stated that the mind is like a parachute and it doesn’t work if it is not open; however, when it comes to TISS, Mumbai, Walter Gropius’ words that the mind is like an umbrella and it is most useful when open, seem more fitting. The mind as an umbrella analogy is more appropriate for at least two reasons, foremost of which is the indispensability of an umbrella in the regular walk of life in Mumbai. An umbrella is more than an equipment here, it is an investment. Having or not having an umbrella with oneself has a greater bearing on one’s quality of life than most other material possessions, an umbrella provides a sense of security, a mental comfort that one is prepared, and even when it is not raining a well-chosen umbrella provides an aesthetic value. Secondly, while a parachute is a valuable thing, it is very far removed from having much practical utility for most people, a parachute is useful under very special circumstances, circumstances which will not arise for most people. The reason for musing about umbrellas is because TISS as an institute provides you with the intellectual equivalent of an umbrella for the rainier days of life, an education which is meant to ensure that when it rains you are not stuck and can keep moving, maybe even get refuge for other people, if you have an umbrella big enough.

Gone are those days when AM/PM never mattered for things were so customary that a 10’o clock class meant 10 AM and 12’o clock presentation meant 12 PM and that went without saying. An MBA can make a world of difference to one’s self, and that’s the least that one can experience when lectures start at PM and end at AM. There are days when you realize the sun is taking a 360-degree journey around you and all you do is keep adding tasks to your to-do list.

All of us encounter instances in our lives that transform us into a person that we would never have imagined ourselves to be. I feel that it is always in our hands to make the best out of any situation that we are posed with. Taking the account of such incidents in my life, I would like to begin by telling about my school days. Back in school, I was this very outgoing person who never lacked spontaneity when it came to initiating conversations with others around me. This made it very easy for me to build bonds and come out as a very likeable person among all my other mates. This gave me a lot of opportunities to engage in various activities, each involving a different group. With this support, I also made it into the council which proved to be instrumental in helping me leave an impact on the various activities of the school.

Leaving A Legacy While Hacking The Workload - IIM Kashipur
Entering into an IIM was a tough task; coming here was exciting, the scenery here is breath-taking and now I need to plan about how to make full use of these two years that lie in front of me. I was struck with idea and enthusiasm for making full use of it, you know like leaving behind a legacy. Now there would be two ways to establish a legacy, that is one you are natural or other you hack your way into it. Assuming I am not natural, I have to hack my way. Now before hacking our way we need to understand what we are dealing with. It’s like a machine, which is if you want to improve it, first know it.
