As the Oval crowd burst into applause as India walked out to play Australia, their first big match of the World Cup, thousands of miles away the new batch of XLers was getting ready for their very own first too, albeit of a different kind. This was 9th of June, the date most people from the batch of 2019-21 had arrived and moved into their hostels.
After a year of classes, rigorous fieldwork, an intense two month summer internship stint at Nestle India and a Pre-Placement Offer, in this quick interview, Abhishek Pareek, Second Year, MA Human Resources Management and Labour Relations, TISS Mumbai talks about his biggest takeaways about the Human Resources function, and delves a little into a popular question that the HR fraternity is asking today: "Why does HR not get a seat at the table?"
A few months back, I read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho and since then, I always used to fantasize about the idea on which the whole story was based on-“No matter what you do, make sure that you do it because it is what your heart and soul desire”. I can very much relate to it, as coming to IIM Nagpur for me was much of a heart and soul decision than a mind-boggling one.
It was a normal day at the office, with an ever-growing schedule of calls but one thing that stood out that day, was the surprise mail from IIM Nagpur, announcing my admission into PGP 2019 - 21 two year course. I was anxious about the results, I have been counting days to the result every night before going to bed. Finally, it was here!
“Time at XL runs faster than the rest of the world.”
I must admit that life in a B School is pretty hard to imagine without one important thing. An MBA grad must have guessed it by now…it’s COFFEE!!
“The wish to believe can conquer death.” However, at the i5 Summit, we do not talk about such complex, mortal issues like death. Just believing in yourself to conquer the 5 I’s namely ideate, inspire, innovate, induce and invest would suffice for us. Indore, being the only Indian city that houses both an IIT and IIM, explores this privilege and the students of both these prestigious institutions co-ordinate, plan, organize and participate in i5, the largest entrepreneurship summit of Central India. Life in a B-School is a steady mix of academics, internships, corporate interactions, case study competitions, and extracurricular activities, and all students are engaged in some of these (if not all) in different permutations and combinations as per their personal interests and inclinations.
