Why We Take Pride In Calling Ourselves MICANs!

Why We Take Pride In Calling Ourselves MICANs!

The year is 2015 - right in the middle of my placement season while I was still a sincere undergrad student, battling my destiny of landing a typical IT job after trying miserably to become a certified Mechanical Engineer. While I had failed as a Mechanical Engineer, I had succeeded as a communicator and a Manager, in different roles, across different areas, with Toastmasters being a huge part of my life there. And like every pseudo and scared Mechanical Engineer, I too got sucked into the idea of an MBA right after college, and like everybody else, I joined coaching to hone my skills for the entrance exams I was forced to apply to.

The Art Of Living And Beyond

The Art Of Living And Beyond

Ever thought of being spiritual early in life? That’s for old people, right? So were our thoughts when we were made to compulsorily attend a session with Art of Living. Who cares about spirituality at this age? I can proudly say, that I was wrong. We are inherently spiritual, and that realization was just the starting point of our journey with the Art of Living team and their two and a half-day full-time happiness program.

The Curious Case of Housekeeping Staff At IFMR GSB Krea University | Bhavith Sunkara

The Curious Case of Housekeeping Staff At IFMR GSB Krea University | Bhavith Sunkara

One month into my MBA at IFMR, the thing that fascinated me the most was the way housekeeping staff worked at IFMR. They handle the cleaning and mopping work in hostels, dining area and the faculty residences. Most of my friends were amazed by their work. One guy left his wallet open on the bed and left for classes. By the time he returned to his room, the wallet was folded and kept on the study table with no money missing. Another guy was amazed when he saw his shoes arranged in an order. He even chuckled saying “dude, even my mother doesn’t do that”. Instances like this show that there is a sense of virtue among the staff.

A New Chapter - IIM Jammu

A New Chapter - IIM Jammu

Just like any other MBA aspirant, I also dreamt of being in an IIM and so, I began preparing for CAT and after the long selection process, finally, I landed a spot at IIM Jammu and then the first disappointment hit me - "Jammu isn't cold"; I repeat! It isn't cold, so everyone who has a misconception just like I did, get your facts right. I mean it is extremely cold in winters but it's also very hot in the summers.

Welcome On-Board! - Induction Week At IIM Sambalpur

It all started as a dream; one affirmative mail from one of the most premium institutes of India had propelled me into the realm of instant stardom among my friends, family and social acquaintances. The IIM brand, one of the most coveted brands for any student aspiring to have a career in the corporate world,  had accepted me for their MBA program and instantaneously, I had transformed into the metaphorical  ‘Sharma  Ji  ka  Beta’, who is supposed to be an inspiration and a role model for learning among his contemporaries, according to Indian parents.

From 'Jugaad' To 'Globe' (And Everything In Between!) | First Month At IIM Lucknow

When I entered the much talked about red brick-walled buildings of IIM Lucknow, I was just another of the many starry-eyed engineers who had finally put behind her years of endless dry code, years of shop floor sweat and grime, years of a stream she may never have taken if not for ‘the kid next door’! A month into my MBA at IIM Lucknow, here are a few first impressions for all those engineers dreaming and working towards entering into the haloed portals of a top B-School.

Back To School – Trials And Tribulations Of Resuming Studies After Work

Back To School – Trials And Tribulations Of Resuming Studies After Work

“You can be free after your 10th std. This is the most important exam of your life”, said the parent to boy/girl wonder. The 15-year-old kid beamed with joy thinking that the ordeal will soon be over. And that they will step into the brave new world as a free being. Wonder kid was expected to top the class, secure seat in the top institution, graduate with a 7-figure salary, marry a spouse of their parents’ choice and be the role model the world has never ever seen. This impressive castle of dreams was conceived even before the little one was conceived. Funny how most parents share the same dream. Math dictates that there can be only one first rank. Why can parents not accept the overwhelming odds that their kid could be mediocre? ‘Well, noooooo.  Because it is my kid and my kid has my genes’. Ahem, okay, that explains it.
