So you have decided that MBA is for you but it might seem as though getting into b-school is too difficult a road to traverse. The unrelenting assault of DI and LR in CAT, verbal dizziness brought upon by a 'serious case' of paragraph jumble and the unfortunate dilution of the quantitative section to set the deck against engineers: it might seem as though you don't have what it takes to get yourself an MBA from premier b-school. This is exactly what you need to forget about getting that coveted call from your dream b-school. What you need to remember and understand before you venture into this phase of your life are your strength and weakness and by that, I don't mean whether your quantitative ability is weak or your inability to crack LR. These are the symptoms of your problem, not the problem. I want you to look for something more fundamental about yourself that you want to work on to get to your dream b-school.
Often classified as one of the toughest exams an Indian Student can ever appear for, the Common Admissions Test (CAT), is, in fact, more a test of what you are made of rather than acumen. If you have the patience and determination, you can get a 99 percentile no matter what your 10th and 12th grades say.
My dear juniors who are appearing for the upcoming CAT examinations and who are aspiring for MBA in future, here is something I want to share as a person who had been through all these processes of Exams, Interviews, GDs, Mock GDs, Mock tests and lots and lots of reading material.
The hefty amount of money, a big bundle of energy and two years of your time, I am sure these factors always haunt you when you think about leaving your Job for CAT. The saying ‘Few people achieve their dreams by playing it safe’ may be a motivating quote to quit but what remains equally valid is that ‘Taking unnecessary risks is plain stupid’.

There are not many who have the good fortune of having a close friend on campus while preparing to join an IIM, fewer still who have any clue what life on campus is really like. Most of us just buckle up and decide to do an MBA just because it is a sure shot at ‘success’; at least the way society has defined it. Some sorted out souls may have grand career plans where they know exactly which institute to join, what specialization to undertake and which company to work for even!
