LEGACY
The smell of fresh paint , watching all the workers buzz around, machines mixing cement ,dust everywhere it was a sight I personally didn’t connect to but seeing my father beam with pride I wondered what is it about this sight and place that he worked so tirelessly over many months to get it built I mean it was just another place we would live like previously many we had occupied, as the days progressed the work seemed to be picking pace and then started the invitation season where my parents invited all our relatives, friends for the housewarming ceremony still felt this was being overdone or glorified beyond a point . Then came the day where we were given the keys to our house and my father beamed looking at it along with my mother who had tears in her eyes I had never seen them like this . That night I went to their room and asked them what is the big deal about our new house , my father smiled and told me “years ago I was just like you when my father was building a home for us those were the days where we were just exited to see something get built it was a rare sight to see so many people involved in bringing the bricks ,people manually mixing cement , digging trenches, laying foundations, building walls, plastering and fitting windows it was a very labor intensive work but during the whole time I used to see my father tirelessly monitor and sometimes even do it himself but with a smile always on his face, but all us siblings wondered why our father was so obsessed with it but years later when he passed away the home he left us with where we grew up where we made countless memories was the legacy he passed on to us, you will one day realize the importance of having your own home when your kid comes to you asking the same question “
