Aditya Birla Group- Big in your life, IIM Raipur
How Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
How Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
I come from a small village named Kusumi in the district Nabarangpur of Odisha. Nabarangpur constantly features in the top 50 backward districts of India due to tribal as its major population. It also features in one of the poorest towns of the world in surveys. But the land is mostly covered with thick forest along with plenty of water supply from the rivers. The climate is also very much conductive in growing teak, Sal woods. With the mission of transforming the lives of the people from this district by utilizing the natural resources available, a joint venture of the Birla group and Government of Odisha started Mangalam Timber Products (MPTL) in the year 1984. Since then it has established as one of the leading manufactures of medium density fibreboards. As a first in the country, it collaborated with G Siempelkamp, Germany in the year 1987. The products are manufactured mostly using waste wood, plantation timber from the forest, agro wastes. It has been a huge revelation for the backward people of the district and districts nearby. The company has been regularly offering employments for the locals and indulges itself with corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for the society. Since its inception, the company has planted more than 5 million trees in the barren lands. These employments help my family in having a stable financial condition so that I can avail of higher education. It can be seen in many families as the literacy rate has been skyrocketing of the district by constantly coming in the top five of the state.
Coming from a family of officers in government sector since multiple generations, it was a shock to my family when I informed them that I want to pursue a career in corporate management. There is a low quotient of trust in the private sector. It is infamous for its cut throat competition, skewed life work life balance and low job. Thankfully my father was wearing a Louise Philippe shirt when we were having this conversation. I pointed out that there are some brands like Aditya Birla Group that we have trusted since generations. Trust goes beyond products’ quality and value for money. Aditya Birla Group has been a part of a middle-class family’s daily life. The feeling of reliability and indigeneity makes us feel like it is our own brand. It is because of this I was able to convince my parents to some degree that I would be able to survive the corporate world. Being a part of IIM Rohtak was a big change for me, in this transition also, Aditya Birla Group was right by my side. From being a Pantaloon and Forever 21 loyalist, to becoming the fan of Van Heusen Women and Allen Solly Women for their power dressing segment, the transition was really smooth. Pantaloons and Forever 21 is still a part of my casual yet elegant dressing requirement of regular days. The reason behind such brand loyalty includes quality but also extends to the confidence and comfort these brands offer. I write this article while talking to my father about the project of my house’s renovation and how UltraTech cement is the obvious choice for the construction.
Aditya Birla Group's 'Enormous' land nearness, financial may, ubiquity of the Group's items and the manner in which they contact lives over the world, this most recent crusade exhibits the account of the organisation moving from 'Being Big' to making and conveying 'Huge Value' for its buyers and individuals on the loose. The Aditya Birla Group was established during the 1960s by Aditya Birla, who began building his business realm at 24 years old. By at that point, in any case, the Birla family had been one of India's most conspicuous mechanical and monetary families for about a century. The sources of the Birla family fortunes lay in the second 50% of the nineteenth century, when in 1870 Seth Shiv Narayan Birla propelled a cotton-and jute-exchanging business the town of Pilani, in Rajasthan, India. In spite of the British occupation, and the endeavour to set up imposing business models by the British exchanging organizations, Birla prevailing with regards to building the family's first fortune
Challenges are inevitable, no matter who you are, where you are, and what you do. Big or small, we all have faced things in life we didn’t like, and had to overcome them because of course – Life Goes On. Challenges can be either personal or professional. I would like to highlight one of the challenges I faced which was kind of a mixture of personal and professional.Being an engineer, I was expected to at least sit for placements. But at the point when we had to submit our names for the placement, I took aback. I realized I didn’t want a job related to Engineering, or sales. I was confused and I wanted to change the field. I talked to my parents and we all agreed, and I didn’t sit for placements. It was one huge decision because I invested 4 years and a lot of money on my degree, and didn’t even sit for placements. Every other person I met asked me why I did not sit, and it got really stressful for me. And others (aunty uncles) were like “MBA? But if you wanted to do an MBA why did you do engineering? Why did you take science and not commerce”. (Yes I should’ve had it all planned while I was still 15 years old) Answering people about my professional decisions became challenge. How did I overcome it? I think I overcame it pretty well. I asked myself “why did I do engineering?”. Answer was simple, I got 10 CGPA in 10th, I opted for science, and as a science student this was the best thing I could do! Why do I want to do MBA? Simple, I found myself inclined to Human Resources while I was handling different fests in my college. Why not a job? Because if I am clear I want to go towards management, why waste 2 more years just for the sake of having work experience? So now I had all the answers, and when people threw these questions on me, I answered boldly. I realized nobody can hurt you without your permission. I realized that you should stand by the decisions you’ve made, and not be afraid of what people might think or say.Be Bold, and the key is to BELIEVE in yourself!
From financial services to fashion to chemicals, the amount of sectors and lives that the Aditya Birla Group has influenced upon is numerous. The number of people directly affected by Aditya Birla Group might be quantifiable like the 1,20,000 employees, but the millions of people that are touched upon by the group are nonmeasurable. The first time I came to know about Aditya Birla Group was probably as a child when I came across the Ultratech cement ads that are occasionally telecasted on the television. From then on, Aditya Birla Group brands has been a constant in my life, be it the Allen Solly or the Van Heusen shirts that my father donned to the frequent visits to the Pantaloon showrooms with my mother. But one time it truly stood out was when I was in search of a birthday gift for my friend. I decided to gift her a top but was running out of time. I already went through several shops, including top brands but never came across anything suitable for my friend who herself is very picky about what she would wear. I definitely did not want to gift her something sub-standard that she would toss to a corner of her room. That is when I came across the Forever 21 showroom across the other side. Never been there before and decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, it had a wide range of quality products to chose from and finally bought one with a sigh of relief at the last moment. The company transforms each life on a day to day basis while chasing its goal of transforming the influence of Indian brands across the world like its tagline states 'Taking India to the World'.
