Part A : Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
Aditya Birla Group is present in my life. It is present in the cement that built our home, the cellular network I’ve been using ever since I got my first phone, the clothing I pick when I need to make a mark, also most probably in the tires that drive my family around and the cans of my favourite drinks. So, yeah it’s presence is big as well. But ABG is not just products, it’s memories too. I remember my childhood filled with the humming of “walk and talk, talk and walk”. I remember forcing my dad off the couch when he was on the phone.
The forging of new friendships, the scores of cricket matches, the punishments served out of the class and the fear of exams. We all remember our days in school as some of the best time in our life. Reminiscing those days also brings back the memories of those delicious lunches we shared with our friends. The appetizing aroma and the sumptuous taste of home-cooked food preserved by that thin sheet of Freshwrap. That was, unbeknownst to me, my first encounter with the Aditya Birla Group.
Curiosity may have killed a cat, but the 2 year old me did not know that as I was interested in whatever that transpired around me. It was around this time that my parents started the construction of my home. They were very afraid that I would get hurt if I am around the construction and would try their best to keep me away from it, but had to take me along sometimes. Adding more fuel to their fear, I would run all over the place, grabbing anything and everything I could. But they were very interested by how I would give my careful attention to the workers who were building my home stone by stone. I would even try to reach out to them and use their tools, as if I am helping them build! My father still tells the story where I took a part of the mixed cement and built a structure from my imagination. On my next day of my visit, the workers gifted me the “sculpture”, that had dried and solidified. I used to have it with me for a very long time, until one of my smaller cousins took it for herself. Some time back, I came to know that this sculpture, one of my prized possessions, is made from a brand of cement that is now known as Ultratech Cement.
