My Saviour (MDI Gurgaon)
Internet is the new necessary evil in our life. One can forget anything but not their phone. Surfing web, being updated with news, posting updates on social media has become the daily routine. This may seem to be the only way of existence today. However five years back, the scenario was a little bit different. In 2014, it was time for me to step out of the small cocoon. My college life was finally going to start. New beginnings also bring with them a lot of apprehensions. Till now I have wandered around in lanes you of a city which has been familiar to me for past 19 years but now it was going to change. As they say, “Change is a change which you can’t change”. My parents were also quite worried. Safety is definitely India’s forte. I wish I could say so. I tried to assure them that the city is not far away and they can come and visit whenever they want. However all of us know how useful these assurances are for our parents. At that juncture, I had an idea sirji. New plan was to call mom and dad everyday and make them familiar with my new surroundings. In exams, mom’s “all the best” still accompanied me. Miles apart I could still have my petty fights with my brother. Instant tea recipe shared on phone calls compensated for chai times at home. In moments of doubts, life advices from my dad gave me the strength to face all the challenges. Making new friends was so easy while sharing notes a day before exams. Late night maggi plans actually happened due to strong “networks” across hostel rooms. Every other day when hostel was about to be closed, phone a friend was the only rescue which could stop the night attendant from locking the door. Birthdays when I was back home, IDEA only helped me connect with all my crazy sixteen friends on asingle conference call. After the fun days time had come to be serious about future career options. Browsing Quora for advices across India for all different courses while sitting in my room was a boon. After lots of confusion and brainstorming, I choose the corporate world. “CAT” was the new dream. Bigger the dream, bigger is the challenge. All the group discussion practices and discussion on latest news were the new norm. Finally the results were announced. I scored a whopping 99.53%. Phone was continuously ringing and I thanked everyone for it. The score card might have one name but there were lots of pillars of strength with whom I was connected due to IDEA and ABG. Thank you IDEA for helping that scared girl who stepped out of her house with lots of apprehensions feel at home even in a distant city, make friends who turned into family and lastly achieve my dream of making to the top Bschool. My journey has had lots of saviours and you have been one the most important ones as with your aid I managed to be an independent, fearless girl as I have always been.
HOW WE BREATH ABG - MDI Gurgaon
As I pounced my way into my morning class the construction site in the college caught my eye as it added a picturesque hue of yellow in this lush green campus. Those humongous amounts of UltraTech cement bags just added so much color to that mundane site. Five minutes into the class a notification of MyIdea app pops up reminding me to pay my bill. As the day passed by, I came to realize there was a driving force behind not just mine but pretty much every one’s survival on this campus. It was the huge products range by Aditya Birla Group touching our lives day in day out. Not having been convinced I challenged my roommate to eliminate the brand from her life for a day, believe me she had the roughest of them all. Be it the isolation from her family and friends for not being able to call them, her formal cloths from Van Heusen that she bought so fondly, those Allen Solly footwear, and most importantly having to spend the entire day outdoors because she didn’t think through the cement part (evil laughter). We soon accepted that our campus breaths ABG not just uses it.
ABG - The way of the peaceful warrior
India is a country where life goes on. With a population of over a billion, you will find an aspiring cricketer or an actor at every nook and corner. The hope of having that dream fulfilled keeps this country alive. I was no different, a young starry eyed boy who wanted to make it big in life. Early in life, I had realized that I was not amongst those gifted with the skills of Tendulkar or the genius of Einstein. Hard work would be my weapon, I had decided. Somewhere between solving equations and trying to make sense out of engineering chemistry, I realized academics would be my “Thing” as today’s generation calls it. This tryst of mine with academics was not the first that I had in my life. I had gone through the brunt of JEE preparation only to feel disappointed in myself. However that was only a “one sided love story”, I had not put my heart towards preparing for JEE. This time however, “Ae dil hai mushkil“ would have a different ending. Although I was mentally prepared for appearing for CAT, my new found love, conditions at home were not conducive. A single storied house with 6 members meant that it was difficult to focus on studies with all the activity around. My father had realized that it was time to build another floor at home so that the kids can focus on their studies. This was also the time when Ultratech came out with its Engineer’s Choice line of advertisements. They sparked my imagination of being able to study peacefully without the chaos of relatives which seem to flood our house too often. Some days later, my father announced proudly over dinner that he was planning to build another floor in the house. That moment captured a lot of what I feel even today, a hope for a bright future. As luck would have it, the new floor was built out of ultratech cement. Those cement sacks are etched into my mind as the defining moments of my live. This average guy todays study’s at one of the top b-schools in the country. Who would have thought, cement can change lives!
