An 8 year young boy from a small town in Kerala after seeing people talking with an equipment asked his father what is that they are using. Till then he has seen only a telephone in his home which is kept on a stand with wires. His father replied it’s an ‘ESCOTEL cordless’, he believed that device name is ESCOTEL cordless. Years passed and when he started using the same ESCOTEL cordless phone and to realise things, he came to know that ESCOTEL was acquired by Idea Cellular. When the small kid matured, his parents bought him a branded shirt named ‘Louis Philippe’, he thought it would a foreign brand and checked about that. He realised it’s under the Madura Fashion & Lifestyle under the Aditya Birla group. It felt really proud to see Louis Philippe as Indian brand and till now my attire is majorly of Aditya Birla brands. Years passed and the small town in Kerala – ‘Kottakkal’ developed and the boy became an adult, when he got a job and he was not having good formal shirts, he went to a shop near his home named ‘Planet Fashion’ to buy formal dress for his first job. The young man from the southernmost state of India – ‘Kerala’ after getting his first salary he thought of gifting his father, but nothing came to his mind other than a ‘Van Heusen shirt’, he went to ‘Pantaloons store’ in Guwahati to get the shirt for his father.

My internship Story: A series of Learning, Unlearning, Relearning

A biochemist by graduation, marketing and communication enthusiast at heart, I got an opportunity to work with Pay 1, a fintech startup, during my summer internship. Headquartered in Mumbai, PAY1  is a retail tech platform catering to the needs of unorganized retails of the country. Before I begin with my Internship experience and its takeaways, there are a few things that each MBA grad or an aspirant should keep in mind. While everybody opines that the internship is full of learnings, I believe that it is a mix of learning, unlearning and relearning. Having come with a work experience background, I learned the importance of unlearning things. The technologies and perspectives of the corporates are constantly undergoing changes, and in order to succeed, it is important to incorporate advanced technologies and new perspectives on both personal and professional front. So, here is a mix of some things that I have learned, some relearned and some unlearnedKnow about things that do not interest you: While people have always stressed knowing what interests them, I prefer to know things that do not interest a person. This has particularly helped me in selecting my project during my internship tenure
