Every person faces some or the other challenge in their life, may it be big or small. Some of them may seem too difficult to overcome, or at times even impossible. Not giving up in these difficult times is critical. As it rightly said that, the sky is darkest just before dawn; enduring the darkest times will see us through the challenges and help us overcome them. I faced such times too.
It’s good to overcome and face challenges for many obvious reasons, but there may be risks and results and in the end you will probably learn something very valuable in the near to far future. In every day life we have challenges. One situation where I had a huge risk was in the in elocution competition when I was in 7th standard. I had to have the courage step up in front of thousands of students who had come from different schools. The risk of being in that competition was if I failed then all the people would see it.
After graduation, I chose to venture into the challenging corporate world after my graduation as I believe nothing can substitute experience. My experience with Wipro Technology for almost 3 years in different roles has brought out the best in me. Dealing with international clients, understanding their line of thought, working at the big stage, upscaling the job performance, up-skilling the resources, monitoring the team to deliver high performance has taught me the true meaning of globalization and work dynamics.
Still I do remember that day when I first time I went to showroom of one the ABG subsidiaries, Pantaloon, which I started using when I was in class 10th. That day I went to showroom with my brother to try the brand and it was my first purchase of the product from pantaloon. We purchased few t-shirts of Rig brand, own brand of pantaloon. there were many good collections. I love the designed. The handling staff was so cooperative. The have given their full attention and time to us to show each collections and giving their valuable feedback to us, when we got confused between 2 t-shirts. He along with us went to the billing counter and help us till the billing was done. The salesperson asked us did we park our vehicle in a mall. we replied yes, then took the parking slip and discounted the total bill of purchase with the parking fee. Finally, a smile of sales person and thanked us for the shopping.
The Aditya Birla group, a premier business conglomerate, had a very humble beginning in 1857 at Pilani, Rajasthan. The company which started as a cotton trading operation has now turned into US$44.3 billion corporation with over 120,000 employees from 42 countries. The group is a major player in various sectors like metals, textiles, carbon black, telecom and cement. But how has this small business turned into a global leader? The answer to this can be found out in Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla’s quote. He stated that, “Great businesses are never built on the quick sands of opportunism. I reiterate that, if living by our values means, perhaps growing at a pace slower than we would otherwise have liked, so be it. For us, leadership lies at the heart of knowing what we stand for.”
We usually fail to appreciate things, and even people, who assist us on a day to day basis. This could be because we take these things for granted or are just oblivious about their assistance. We don't realize that there are so many people who are connected to our lives, who work to ensure that our lives are a little simpler. Just like that gentleman who opens the door for you when you’re running late for a meeting. Some might say that 'He's the doorman. That's his job. I don't need his help.' But, just imagine this... You're running late for the most important meeting of your life. Laptop, bag, files in hand and you have to open these huge heavy doors... What then? Wouldn't you wish, you had the doorman to open it for you?
