Life hasn’t been a smooth road so far. It has been full of bumps, blocks and even the occasional pothole. I have spent so much time thinking about all the chances that I let pass away. I mourn for all the ‘I could haves’ and ‘I should haves’. Soon, I was stuck with the realisation that I was spending more time in my past than present.
The recent demise of Mr. BK Birla has given me the chance to contemplate how much a person can influence. When you hear about the Birla’s, the first thing that comes to mind is the Aditya Birla Group and their legacy in our nations economic and social development.
“Why do you want to do a management course? “. A common question, or sometimes the very first question we are asked in a B-school interview process. Most of us work on answering this question few weeks before the interview, while some possess the much sought-after quality of conviction and know exactly why they are doing this. Fortunately, even before I was answering this very question to an interview panel and convincing them, I spent a year doing the same to my parents and almost all my relatives. Ultimately, I succeeded but the path I traversed to get here was not an easy one.
Aditya Birla group is one of India’s largest Business group. It was established in 1857 by the founder Shiv Narayan Birla. They started their business in cotton trading. Now the group have industries and workforce in various fields. In India, they are the pioneer in the Cement industry, Agro business, Textiles, Telecom services etc. They not only have companies in India, but they also have companies in the USA, CHINA, AFRICA, EUROPE everywhere throughout the world. In my view, there will be no person in India who haven’t used any product produced by Aditya Birla Group. Directly and Indirectly, Aditya Birla Group is a major contributor to India’s GDP. Through that, we can say how they are deep-rooted in Indian infrastructure and development.
