Aditya Agarwal (CFA Level 3), a second year student at IIM Trichy, took time out to address doubts about careers in the finance sector. Here is a gist of his chat session, wherein he talks about the benefits of a CFA qualification and its relevance for an MBA student looking at roles in finance.
In the financial markets, information is the most valuable asset. Investors rely on information to know what to put their money into, traders need information to know whether they should enter or exit a position, and corporate financiers (including bankers, private equity firms etc.) need information to value companies and participate in transactions. This information has to come from somewhere and as a result, there are entire divisions within financial institutions dedicated to researching the key issues for their firm and this division is called Equity Research.

Hitesh, having done his B.Tech from IIT Bombay, did his MBA from Kellogg’s School of Management in the U.S before finally becoming an investment banker in the Wall Street. We had the opportunity to get his views and insights on the recent trends in the M & A scenario and its future along with some general ideas about careers in investment banking.
