IIM Lucknow completed its Final Placements for the Class of 2012 and it seems it won't be too long before it enters the big league (read: IIM ABC) as long as Recruitment in India is concerned. Top Consulting companies like BCG and McKinsey are not only regulars at IIM Lucknow but also they hire in good numbers now. Finance has taken a hit but then that is the case across campuses and hence should not surprise anyone. Other more stable domains like Sales & Marketing, IT etc. have maintained a strong presence as always and should have given a wide variety of choices to graduates of the Class of 2012. A slightly bigger batch size in a difficult environment would have made it an extremely competitive year especially for the coveted jobs.
We are happy to share the 2nd placement report in our series (after XLRI Jamshedpur) and the first among the IIMs – IIM Bangalore for the Class of 2012.
If there were pundits scaring you about the state of the economy and whether there were jobs out there in the market, XLRI Jamshedpur responds with resounding success. Not only has XLRI Jamshedpur managed to place students in companies with great reputation but also there is great diversity of options across the different functions. As per the placement committee of XLRI Jamshedpur, 98% of the batch was placed by the end of the 3rd day of the Placement Week. There is no doubt that XLRI Jamshedpur remains one of the few most sought after campuses for recruiters and it manages to do so well despite the goegraphical disadvantage year after year.
It is an unverified report. Despite repeated emails, phone calls and text messages we were not successful in convincing IIM Indore placement office. IIM Indore is the first IIM featured on this website unwilling to share information in the InsideIIM format. So it is XLRI Jamshedpur, JBIMS Mumbai and IIM Indore who have refused to tell us specific profiles offered by different companies during summer placements. On the positive part, its the only IIM to release an average stipend figure this summer placement season.
(The companies below are in no particular order and the list is not exhaustive.)
Unlike, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode and FMS Delhi (click to see report) we could not convince JBIMS Mumbai to give us the placement information in the same format. While there are some impressive names there due to the rich legacy of JBIMS Mumbai, the report released by the placement committee makes it impossible to know which company recruited for which profiles. While ones like Accenture Business Consulting are very clear, for most others readers will have to use their own imagination to figure out.
There is a reason why one of the authors on this website somewhere mentioned that in India, it's still IIM ABC and the rest. Especially, when it comes to placements. Talks of a slowdown seem difficult to believe if one just glances through the kind of companies and the roles offered at IIM Bangalore for internships in the summer of 2012.
