Is a leader the only one who propels a team towards success? Rather a leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. The Vinod Gupta School of Management has always been the torchbearer in the IIT ecosystem to embark on the journey to produce impeccable corporate leaders through its excellent management education. This year marks the 6th anniversary of Purvodaya, the annual business fest of the VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur. The much-anticipated event of Purvodaya, The Leadership Summit exemplifies that effort and stands as the quintessence of a symposium where outstanding leaders sit down for a discourse that is designed to guide potential managers. The summit has managed to excel every year and boasts of some of the most revolutionary corporate honchos and change maestros in its invitation list. This year's summit which was held on the 4th of February, 2017 included a diverse line-up of guest speakers who spoke on the topic, “Rethinking Leadership - Exploring New Possibilities”. The line-up included:
IIM Trichy clubs Drishtikon and Enviro organised a movie screening followed by a guest lecture on the topic “Navigating development discourse and the (imminent?) flood” by Dr. Manu Mathai based on the documentary Before the Flood. Drishtikon is an initiative of the Library Resource Center (IIMT) to screen films, documentaries, plays, and launch books on social issues. Enviro Club is a student body which is invested in organising activities to raise awareness towards environmental issues and practices, and carrying out a research on sustainability.
The Harvard US India Initiative Conference (HUII) is a student-led organisation that aims to foster long-term cooperation between youth from the United States and India, to address some of India’s most pressing social, economic and political issues. This initiative started out in 2011 and over the years has grown by leaps and bounds, as a platform which inspires the youth to debate, discuss and deliberate their ideas for India’s future, define the challenges that confront our nation and seek solutions to them.
