The Internship to 'Bank' Upon - Summer Saga at HSBC

The story begins on one fine day, at 6:30 in the morning I receive a mail saying ‘You have been selected to the final round of Summer Internship selection process. Please report at 9:00 AM SHARP!’ It usually takes just 30 minutes to reach college from my place, but those who stay in Mumbai or have committed a crime of coming here during heavy rains can understand   that it’s not just 30 but you should preferably avoid looking at your watch and pray to the almighty to reach there in time. My case too was not different.

I was too desperate to find my name in the list of selected candidates on the notice board. Three good companies were already done with their processes taking 16 of my friends. Twice I made up to the interview round. Somehow stumbling on the last roadblock – I didn’t know what to do. Pressure growing all around. Doubts over my own credibility and suitability haunting me every night. This placement was getting too much on my mind. That was when “Idea” changed my life.

The Rise Beyond Expectations – Strategy at Mahindra Rise

As a child, I loved to make airplanes out of paper not because they were something to play with but because it helped my creativity to soar into the sky. It enabled me to rise beyond possibilities; it helped my aspirations to fly. Soon after a conference call that detailed us about the General Management Cadre (GMC) Program, we started a ‘Whatsapp’ group to connect to all the fellow-interns. Subsequently, the e-mail that flew into my inbox from Mahindra was a passport to ‘Mahindra Towers’. The first thing that elated me was that I would find a place in the Group Headquarters. I was one of the 3 lucky people out of 60 GMC Interns to be given a project in the Group Strategy Office. The project title that came in the email with an assortment of key deliverables read: “IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGINE APPLICATIONS IN SHIPPING INDUSTRY”

Fifteen days into my internship and I was still clueless of what was happening around. It was not that I had not put any efforts in the past 15 days, but it was that I was still directionless. Believe me, that is what defines Mumbai and after spending 56 days in the city which never sleeps, I am no more afraid of getting crushed in the sea of rushing Mumbaikars, I am not afraid of crossing across a road with super speeding cars, I am not afraid of pickpockets and I am definitely not afraid of thriving in a big city all by myself. Two months of internship at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has taught me some of the finest lessons of life and that too with panache!
