In the first year of MBA curriculum, IIM Indore offers a very unique workshop called Design Thinking. This two-day workshop allows the students to develop a user-centric approach to innovation and problem-solving. It gives the participants the opportunity to unleash the innate creative self & think beyond what seems possible solution is.

Just like a normal class at IIM-I, we expected the professor to start the course with an introduction, go ahead with teaching, asking thought-provoking questions, leaving us with a little more knowledgeable than we were a day ago. But unlike the normal class, this workshop began with all the participants sketching a portrait of the person sitting next to them and introducing that partner to the class with some quirky facts.

With such a different start to the class, all of us knew we were in for a joyous ride. Throughout the two-day workshop course, we did everything crafty and creative to solve the problem statement given to the class. This workshop gave us an opportunity to take a completely different perspective of problem-solving. Using interesting tools like empathy map, storytelling, collage making and many more, solving a case gave us an experience of a lifetime.

It made me realize not always problems are difficult to solve if you are positive and are enthusiastic to solve it. Not always you need management jargons and fancy matrices to come to a solution. Sometimes just using your unique approach to problem-solving, thinking out of the box ideas, being empathetic towards your target group will let you know the people better and solve the problem better.

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

A person enthusiastic to learn about fashion industry would have her dream come true working for a company that retails numerous international fashion brands like Ajile, Akkriti, Alto Moda, Annabelle, Bare Denim, Byford, Candie’s New York, Chalk, Chirpie Pie, Honey, Izabel London, Poppers, Rangmanch, Richard Parker SF Jeans, Trishaa, Urban Eagle. Pantaloons is one of the most loved fashion retail chain in India. Working for ABFRL, (Pantaloons specifically) would give me an opportunity to not only explore my passion to work for a fashion brand but also give me flexibility to make decisions for the most loved fashion retail chain which sounds really exciting.
