I still remember last year, it was around the same time, when I was sitting with a 99.75 percentile in hand, and no converts yet. I didn’t even get a call from most of the old IIMs. I just kept my fingers crossed and hoped to convert some IIM. And then the day finally arrived. I had converted all the new IIMs. The question then came up. What now? Which IIM to take? After my research I finally narrowed it down to IIM Udaipur and not once do I regret my decision. And it has lived up to its name in every aspect. An academically driven place, that’s what IIM Udaipur is, and that’s what I wanted. Once you have the foundation laid you don’t need to worry about anything.
Faculty
The Faculty is top-notch. I have been inclined towards sales and marketing. And in the marketing management class, I still remember coming up with the silliest of doubts. But the faculty made sure to clear my doubt every single time. We could approach them anytime. Accounting is a subject that we as engineers generally don’t get the hang of quickly. But, the professors made sure that they keep the pace of the class slow so that we get it. In fact, the best professor I have ever met is a finance faculty. Overall, every professor is an expert in his/her field. They give us the flavour of both academics, as well as, its application in the real world.
Campus life
How often do you get to spend your two years in a campus in the middle of mountains? Well, that’s how the Udaipur’s campus is. It is surrounded by valleys and mountains, and it makes the whole atmosphere surreal. All the facilities are fantastic, and there is the added option of cycling anytime anywhere you want with cycles available for rent on campus.
Placements
I am fortunate enough to have got the opportunity to be a part of the Placement Committee. It has indeed been a great experience. I can, for sure, tell that concerning placements, we are indeed doing great. Having had the opportunity to host industry stalwarts like Johnson and Johnson, Marico, DE Shaw, ICICI Lombard for its summer placement just within six years of its inception is indeed a moment of pride for the college. The only reason this could happen is because of the values that the college imbibes in you which is noticeable by the corporate industry too. And, that is what I would call the POD (point of differentiation) of the college. In today’s world, it’s tough to find a place where you can still see people looking for knowledge and focusing on laying the foundation right. IIM Udaipur is one of the few places that does that. Our NIRF ranking speaks for itself.
My internship - Marico
IIM Udaipur gave me the opportunity to intern with one of the sought after FMCGs out there – Marico. We have grown up using Parachute coconut oil and getting a chance to work for the company that owns it was a dream come true. I am pretty sure that I wouldn’t have got this opportunity elsewhere. I am currently in the last week of my internship, and the last two months have indeed been a steep climb on the learning curve for me and IIM
Udaipur made this dream possible.
All in all, IIM Udaipur has indeed help me learn a lot of things and excel in others. It has provided me with opportunities that I doubt I would get anywhere else. As I said, it has been an amazing journey, and if at all you feel that Management is your calling, IIM Udaipur will not disappoint you.
Which ABG company I would like to work for?
If given a chance to be a part of the Aditya Birla Group, I would love to work for Aditya Birla Retail. I am passionate about Sales and Marketing, and there is no doubt about the fact that the future of sales is in modern retail. I find it interesting and at the same time innovating to think like the consumer and decide what goes on in the decision making the process of the consumer at the retail outlet because as it is rightly said, today, 80% of the purchasing decision will happen at the outlet. In addition to that, I don’t think there is a better platform for me to learn and grow in my interest.
