The usual classes at B school start with Professor entering the class and introducing us to the topic to be discussed on that day. The discussion starts in set pedagogy with inputs from Professor and students involving in-class participation. The class continues and a time comes to its end. So far so good because that's the way Professors have been conducting classes. No doubt there would be intellectual discussions because IIM Indore is a prestigious institution having experienced and talented Professor with immense knowledge. But imagine a class guaranteeing 100 per cent of student's attention no matter if a student has slept well a night before or usually is lost in his/her thoughts. We at IIM Indore are fortunate enough to attend the session of one such Professor. One can never even think of him conducting classes in a way he does if one sees him for the first time. His energy and creativity are beyond our imagination. Not even the age became a barrier for his energy and creativity. He is an aged Professor, but no one can match up to his creativity.
The name of the Professor is Mr. Kamal Jain and he was our Human Resources Management faculty in the third term. He made HRM sessions worth waiting for us. He used to start class with a song which conveys the topic we were supposed to discuss that day. Not only this, he even mapped songs with each concept or situation for that day's class. The song could be old or new. He never referred to the case in particular but incorporated it in the discussion as it continues without us being realized. That's the best part of his teaching style. He even used to conduct games which made people participate in the class. One day we played musical pen, a version of the musical chair but here we passed on a pen to each other along with the music and when a music stops, the person holding the pen had to answer his question.
Then a day came for the last session and none of us wanted to miss it because everyone knew that the Prof. is going to do something creative. The class progressed the way I just described above and then the end part came. The last slide which he showed to us was something none of the students would forget. He wrote HRM, the name of the course with each of the student’s photo somewhere on those three letters. We never thought any Professor could do this. That moment was memorable, and I can say this with the assurance that not even a single student would forget Prof. Kamal Jain. On a personal level, I Iearned a lot from him which is not about the course but other aspects of his personality.
I would like to work with Aditya Birla Capital Limited which is one of the largest financial services players in India. The reason being it would provide wide exposure as it serves end-to-end financial needs of its retail and corporate customers. Also, many other financial services businesses of Aditya Birla Group fall under it. So, this will make sure one would get hands on experience in varied areas. I would like to pursue my career in the financial domain and Aditya Birla Capital Ltd would be the best to work with
