Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur is located in the outskirts of Udaipur – Balicha. One of the first impression this institute leaves in the minds of its visitors is its closeness to mother nature. IIMU is the largest IIM there is, and it is situated amidst the Aravali Range, and as a result, you get a breath-taking view of the natural beauty it faces. The IIM Udaipur campus or the Balicha campus has been set up with the values of preserving nature, and thus steps have been taken within the institute to ensure that IIMU remains an eco-friendly institute throughout.
IIM Udaipur has imbibed much of its royal culture from the Udaipur city itself. The hostels, as well as the buildings of the academic block, are designed to reflect the designs of castles and forts. Again, talking about Udaipur, a city of lakes, has inspired IIMU to have its own set of lakes (seven lakes to come up!). These lakes would enable IIMU to harvest rainwater and also to make it a self-dependent institute.
Talking about academics, we have been lucky to have a visionary Director – Prof. Janat Shah. Under Prof. Janat Shah’s leadership, IIMU has bagged the third place in research in India according to the UT Dallas Rankings. IIMU has also been ranked 13th in the NIRF-2018 list for top 100 management institutes in India by the HRD, Govt of India. The institute strives for academic excellence, and with the help of its exceptional faculty, the institute delivers regarding quality education. The institute has been built on four key building blocks:
- Entrepreneurship
IIMU provides students with all support needed to explore their entrepreneurial aspirations. The entrepreneurial culture has been embedded in the academic course-work through several electives to facilitate the same. Also, a dedicated e-cell has been set up in the Institute for the purpose. - International Perspective
IIMU strongly believes in global exposure, and for that purpose, IIMU has a very strong student exchange program. With ties with premier institutes of France and Germany, students of IIMU get to spend one full trimester in these institutions to imbibe invaluable experiences and global exposure. IIMU also has an International Business Practices (IBP) programme. Here, the students get to work on a live project in places like Malaysia, Thailand, Dubai, and Singapore. All these are aimed towards a global exposure for students. - Immersion as a philosophy
Along with a global perspective, IIMU also believes in strengthening its roots. The Rural Immersion programme is a mandatory programme for all students. Here, each student gets to spend some time in rural India, to witness the shortcomings of these places first hand. This programme has been designed with the motive of bringing Bharat closer to India. - Industry Interface
To ensure that every student understands how the theoretical knowledge meets the practical applications in the industries, several talks and guest lectures are organized to provide the students with industrial insights and exposure. These lectures are given by guest speakers and industrial pioneers.
The entire culture of IIMU has been upheld by its key values that are enforced and followed be every student here at IIMU:
- Excellence
- Integrity
- Transparency
- Mutual Respect
- Inclusion
- Environmental consciousness/ecological sustainability
And this is what makes the IIMU campus unique.
Which ABG company would I like to work with?
I would love to work in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited as it deals with consumer durables and there are several brands under it. Operations being one of my favourite subjects, I would love to deploy my skills as well as learn from the best fashion retail brands in the country.
