How to prepare for CAT starting from June?

If you are starting your CAT 2024 exam preparation in June, don't worry. You still have ample time to prepare effectively. Here's a detailed guide to help you ace the CAT exam starting in June. 

Phase 1: June - July - Foundation Building

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)

  • Reading Comprehension (RC): Focus on improving your reading habits. Start reading articles, newspapers, and books regularly. Summarize each paragraph in your mind to improve comprehension. Practice RC passages daily to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Verbal Ability (VA): This section includes Para-Jumbles, Para-Summary, and sentence completion. Practice different types of VA questions daily.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)

  • This section requires consistent daily practice. You have to work on solving different types of DI and LR sets. Also, focus on understanding the logic behind each problem and practice regularly to train your brain to think logically. Try solving at least one DI and one LR set every day.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

  • This section can be highly scored with the right approach. Start by understanding the basics of all topics such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Number Systems, and Modern Maths. Use good study material and solve questions from each topic thoroughly. Focus on covering all issues in these two months.

Phase 2: August - September - Intermediate Level

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)

  • Continue practicing RC passages and VA questions. Increase the difficulty level of the passages and questions. Take daily RC tests and VA practice sets. Aim to solve two RCs and five VA questions of each type daily.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)

  • By now, you should have a basic understanding of DILR. Start solving sets in a timed manner to improve speed. Practice reading sets quickly, understanding the information, and solving the problems efficiently. Aim to solve at least two DILR sets every day.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

  • Begin revising topics and solving more complex problems. Focus on areas where you feel less confident. Increase the difficulty level of questions and aim to solve as many problems as possible. Practice solving questions quickly and accurately.

Mocks

  • Start taking mock tests. Aim for one mock every two weeks. Analyze your performance after each mock to identify and work on weak areas. This will help you get used to the exam pattern and time management.

Phase 3: October - November - Advanced Preparation

Evaluation and Strategy Building

  • Evaluate your performance so far. Identify your strong and weak sections. Work on strengthening your weak areas and further improving your strong sections.
  • Develop a section-wise attempt strategy. Experiment with different strategies during mock tests to find what works best for you.

Past Year Papers

  • Solve past CAT papers to understand the exam pattern and difficulty level. This will help you get a feel of the actual exam and the types of questions asked.

Mocks

  • Increase the frequency of mock tests. Aim for one mock every week. Analyze each mock thoroughly to identify mistakes and work on them. This will help you build exam stamina and improve your performance.

Phase 4: November - Final Preparations

Focus on Strengths and Mocks

  • In the last few weeks, focus on your strengths. Attempt mocks regularly and analyze them carefully.
  • Revise selectively and focus on improving any remaining weak areas.
  • Finalize your exam strategy and stick to it.
