IIM Shillong, the campus in clouds is unique in many aspects. It is currently hosted in the summer retreat of the erstwhile Maharajas of the Mayurbhanj dynasty. The Palace was renovated by the Meghalaya Government but it is maintained like the royals still live here. The beauty of the campus along with the scenic beauty makes this place the best to be for budding managers.

IIM Shillong - Why is it Special?

Situated in the heart of Meghalaya IIM Shillong’s environment can be described as the temple for learning in midst of clouds. The lush green mountains, and a cloudy sky relax and soothes the mind, which keeps one cheerful and positive. Shillong being among the eight sisters of north-eastern part of India gives exposure to the new culture. Living in the culture of Shillong is a new experience in itself the exposure to a new culture is a learning experience in itself.  IIM Shillong is the youngest IIM among the older IIMs and the oldest among the younger IIMs, this also gives IIM Shillong good communication with a varied range of B-Schools. Sustainability is not only preached but is also practice by IIM Shillong. IIM Shillong host a Sustainability Convention every year where it takes steps to promote sustainability not only in campus but also in the city of Shillong. The SusCon was also joined by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who was also the visiting faculty in the institute. IIM Shillong follows Dr. Kalam footsteps in in the field of emanating and dispersing knowledge for everyone.

Shillong as its named as the ‘Scotland of the East’ is a unique place in all respects. Right from the culture, people’s belief and economy; everything will surprise you in its own way and you come here for higher studies: such combination is hard to find and will definitely give you a perspective towards life, career and society. Natural beauty is not only attractive but also reminds people that nothing is predictable and no success can be achieved in isolation. Weather changes so quick, sky appears to be up with a different colour every day and greenery makes you feel rejuvenated. All this may sound fancy to some, but that’s what I have experiences since the day I have entered my ‘campus in clouds’ IIM Shillong. Coming from a city like Delhi where pace of life is so fast and time to cherish the crispness of nature doesn’t even appear on any agenda list of the people living there. Coming from an engineering college, which was a small village in itself, and having expectations of a lavish campus with all facilities, first sight of IIM Raipur have been a sheer disappointment. In a single building we have the academic block and the student hostels. And to add to that we share our temporary campus with IIT and Government Engineering College. Thinking of the hardships ahead and all dreams shattered, I entered IIM Raipur. But wait! It’s just been a day and I am already having fun and roaming around with 20 others. And all the credit goes to our small campus which gives us very little space but amazing people to be with.
