Aditya Birla Group- A Global Icon: Pritom Sonowal #IIM Trichy

In year 1857, laying the foundation for House of Birla, Seth Shiv Narayan Birla started trading cotton from Pilani, Rajasthan, there by train to Bombay for export to England and other countries. He was one of the early Indian traders to participate in this cotton trade. Later in early part of 20th century, the Group’s founding father, Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, a member of the Maheshwari Marwari community, set up industries in India. Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla was a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi and played an active role in the Indian freedom struggle. Moreover, he represented India at the first and second round-table conferences in London, along with Gandhiji. Aditya Birla Group is now an Indian Multinational private sector conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, India. Their goal is to deliver super value to customers, shareholders, employees and society at large and to be a premium global conglomerate with a clear focus on each of the business. Basically, Aditya Birla business is expanded to aluminium, copper, cargo handling, fertilizers, acids and hindalco brands. Hindalco’s phosphatic fertilizer [di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer] is the most popular phosphatic fertilizer because of its high nutrient content and good physical properties which is marketed under the brand name “Birla Balwan”. Birla Balwan stands a strong market position and is very popular among farmers in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Haryana. Agriculture contributes to nearly one third of India GDP. The Hindalco’s phosphatic fertilizer plays an important role in agriculture. It has been like a helping hand to the farmers for earning their bread. Farmers are undoubtedly the backbone of the society who contribute greatly for the upliftment of the society. Coming from a family with a lineage of farmers I personally feel that they still rely on the age-old techniques of farming. So, awareness about new developments and knowledge of fertilizers is very much necessary. Government has started many programs to spread awareness that includes "Krishi mela" and “PM Kisan scheme” but active participation of farmers are also required for its success.

What makes Big things Big! IMI New Delhi

It is difficult to quantify how and when something touches your life. Most of our life is spent never realising that each person in our life has his own life – as complex or even more than ours. From the clothes on our bodies or to the houses we live in, who knew they could come from the same source. The first suit I ever bought was from Louis Philippe. I hardly knew the brand but it was the only piece of clothing that would look good on a skinny boy. It was a suit I would cherish for the rest of my life. It really is funny how small things in life end up mattering the most but we never look back and think on them. Some while back I had met with an accident. I came out unharmed, by God’s grace but you tend to not forget such things. I was lucky my tires didn’t skid too much and pull me under the bus. It’s funny that the tires were lace with Birla Carbon Nano-particles. So Aditya Birla Group was there even when I fell and it helped me get up. I may not always go out and thank them but directly or indirectly the Aditya Birla Group has been alongside me. From its contribution in cement to major dams across the country to creating a network that facilitated communication. Aditya Birla Group has made lives simpler for all of us. It is big not just in size but in what matters.

What an Idea! - TAPMI

What an Idea! - TAPMI

I still remember the day I went to buy my first mobile sim with my Dad when I finished my schooling and was joining the university, I was excited by the fact that I was finally going to get a cell phone of my own and I was spoilt for choices with a variety of service providers and finally settled on Idea . Thus began my tryst with Aditya Birla Group and since than it has been an integral part of my life.

My journey with the Aditya Birla Group

My journey with the Aditya Birla Group

Aditya Birla group is perhaps one of the few names known to people across the geographies, castes, creeds, sexes of the country alike. From Ultratech cement to pantaloons, the conglomerate has managed to touch the lives of millions in more than one way and I am no exception to it. The journey that started with cotton trading by Shiv Narayan Birla  in Pilani, Rajasthan in 1857 is now the third largest conglomerate of India and is still on the upward spiral.
