Believing in Yourself -T. A. Pai Management Institute

Believing in Yourself -T. A. Pai Management Institute

Recently, I had been offered an internship where I had to conduct a market research regarding edible oil sales in Kerala, I had been assigned two districts where I had to meet retailers and consumers about the existing products in the industry. I was quite excited for this project and looking forward begin the internship. However, my family was not very happy as the project involved a lot of travelling and meeting new people. They were concerned because it is not a job a woman typically does. It was quite difficult for me to convince them or reason with them. In fact, listening to my family, I started doubting myself whether I would be able to do this as it was the first time I would be doing a job such as this. Though I did not feel confident, I started my internship. I traveled to a lot of cities in Kerala, visited a large number of people and completed the internship successfully. It was difficult, but I was happy I did it as I learnt a lot of things from the internship. Even my parents were proud of me. They even started telling other people that their daughter had completed a difficult internship on her own. I learnt from this experience that if you believe you can achieve something, no matter what other people tell you and no matter how much they discourage you, you can achieve it. Another thing I learnt is that sunscreen should always be your best friend!!

Aditya Birla impacts lives in all aspects - TAPMI

In going through the products of the Aditya Birla group there is one thing which we notice in common. They are leaders in it. Coming from a construction background I have noticed how all the major construction activities in India prefer using Ultratech cement over other brands. It shows how much trust the consumers in have its quality that has propelled it to be the leading cement brand in India. With the help of Ultratech cement Aditya Birla have had a helping hand in providing housing solution and infrastructure developments to people and governments across Asia, Africa and Europe.

This is a story of that time when I was doing a job in Private Ltd. Company. The company is in a decent position in the wind energy sector. I was the site Incharge at that time and the safety and operational responsibility of my team which consisted of 18  members were on my shoulders. During our training days, we were taught that no job should be carried out when the wind speed is more than  15m/s, but when I joined my respective site this was not the condition. The blue colored employees were forced to restore the machine fault in spite of prevailing high wind speed. Working is such condition is very risky safety point of view, due to thunderstorm and high wind velocity there is a risk of high voltage electric shock or an accident which could be fatal. As soon as I took the charge of that Site forced the employees not to climb the machine in such a scenario. The productivity of that month felt drastically due to that decision and my manager issued me a warning letter in spite of explaining him the rationale behind my decision. I then went to head office and met the DGM of the Safety and Security department and explained to him the entire scenario. I also met our trainers and took their inputs. After consequent meetings with them, a group meeting was organized which included me, my manager, client manager and the Head of Safety and Security Dept. My manager accepted that he was under the pressure of clients due to less productivity and used to force the blue colored employee to work in risky work condition. After the meeting, he was dismissed with immediate effect and I was promoted to AREA SAFETY MANAGER.
