My summer internship experience

My summer internship experience

Being a fresher I was eager to gain work experience in some form or the other.  As soon as the process at my campus started I wanted to get placed.  But I wanted to keep my options open. Hence, I reached out to my sister who was working at an NBFC in Kolkata. She asked her boss and the HR at the company if there was a vacancy for an MBA Intern.  Although the request was placed well in advance, the company was willing to have a look at my resume.  After sending across my resume and a couple of follow ups, I received my offer letter.  I was offered the position of a trainee in the core treasury department of Magma Fincorp Ltd. The company was headquartered in Kolkata and that’s where I had to intern. The good thing was I was getting the chance to Intern from my city and live comfortably once again with my parents for a period of 2 months. However, I was not offered any stipend, something I had to come to terms with when compared to my fellow batch-mates who were all getting paid internships.

The moment we joined MBA college we were told to

The moment we joined MBA college we were told to start preparation for our summer internship. Eventually I started to prepare for the same. Before coming to college, I had thought of entering into finance world and so was looking for some good finance role for my summer internship. I sat for 3 companies before getting selected into the RSM Astute consultancy. RSM Astute interview was scheduled via skype so I was quite nervous and not happy with this as I believe you can not express yourself fully on telephone or video interview. Somehow it happened good for me, they asked certain question on finance like, about inflation rate, SEBI, accounting firms etc. More important, they started with the questions like why finance after B-Tech, what motivated me to enter into finance after having my engineering background. Before entering into the college, we were quite ready with these types of questions. So could handle all these in a good way. Out of 20 students given interview for this, 3 were selected and I was one of them. Our location for the same was Mumbai which was a challenge for me but you need to handle these once you are in professional world.

ABG and ME

ABG and ME

It won’t be an overstatement if I say that Aditya Birla Group has been with me throughout my life. Being present in 35 countries, in sectors like chemicals, textiles, banking, carbon black, cement, fashion and financial services. With over 1,20,000 employees worldwide and a huge number of brands, I am sure that the story is the same for millions of people. From going out to buy a dress for my 14th birthday from Forever21, to buying my first suit before joining IIFT, ABG has always been my best friend. Talking about best friends, mine is Soham, and I call him my Ultra Tech Cement because that’s how strong our friendship is. We are huge fans of “f.r.i.e.n.d.s.” and looking at Rachel Greene working at Ralph Lauren got me wishing to work there too. I used to watch it on my phone, with amazing internet speed offered by Vodafone-Idea. Vodafone also happens to be the only service provider I have been using all my life. The fashion and retail business interests me a lot and ABG’s brands like American Eagle, Allen Solly, Pantaloons, Planet Fashion, etc. are my dream brands. There are so many memories, from mom wrapping up breakfast for me in tiffin with Freshwrapp foil, to buying my dad a shirt from Peter England with my first earning from giving home tuition. My life has been beautiful, with all these sweet little details and Aditya Birla Group, making me happy. I feel blessed for all these memories; they make me complete.
