There are other B-Schools and then there is SJMSOM, one of its own leagues. Interview experience at SJMSOM made me believe why IIT Bombay is the top University of India. Where other colleges were struggling to conduct smooth interviews for students in this pandemic, SJMSOM did so tirelessly and gave students one of the lifetime experiences in this COVID hit admission process. They used the Gather platform where the virtual campus was created and people were moving in-out with the bots of their choice.
After studying vigorously for months (CAT it is!) and scoring comes the herculean task of cracking your dream college interview and with pandemic shifting the interview process online you are bound to get cold feet . While most college's conducted interview via ZOOM , SJSOM used GATHER platform which was a welcome move. The platform with its unique capabilities and UI allowed one to have an avatar and experience the virtu(real) experience closest to what an offline interview could offer. We were divided in groups according to our profile and alloted an Interview Buddy who broke the ice amongst us and facilitated networking within group. There were two parallel process one for interview and other for document verification and Interview buddy made sure we sailed through each smoothly.
I would like to start off by saying that this was by far the most organized interviews I have given, in terms of their management, preparation and post interview experience. First, when we registered ourselves, we were provided the link for Gather, an online software adopted by the college for interviews this year. This provided each of us with bot avatars and we were invited on the virtual platform for our interview. Each waiting group was managed by an adcom member clearing our doubts at every stage. The seniors were very helping and created a great relaxing environment. We got to interact with our peers in the waiting room as well. Then we were taken for our document verification process. As we returned from the verification room, we were being order wise called for the interviews. When our turn came, we were escorted to the interview room, where the interviewers allowed us into the zoom call after a short break.
On 3rd March 2021, I attended the interview process of Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay for securing admission to their coveted course in Master of Business Administration (MBA). I attended a number of interviews of all top b-schools and found the SJMSOM process most streamlined and organized right from the application submission day to the admission offer letter acceptance phase. The admission committee provided clear details at each phase for candidates with regards to re-scheduling, document verification and offer letter acceptance. A b-school interview process could be nerve-racking, especially in virtual mode, where a slight technical glitch can affect your concentration and increase anxiety. But it was commendable, how SJMSOM seniors organized the entire process on Gather platform, where candidates were guided for document verification and the actual interview. Also, a presentation on SJMSOM depicting its culture, alumni and placement reports was very well conducted. Gather platform also allowed candidates to interact with each other as well as SJMSOM seniors, while waiting for their chance. The actual interview process was very heartening to attend as it was more like a conversation about my life including work experience, undergrad college and hobbies. The panel seemed interested in my work projects and allowed me to explain those in full detail which gave me a lot of confidence. In addition to that, there was an insightful conversation on my interests of cricket and theatre. Even after the interview process, all the details regarding result dates and waitlist movements were communicated well in advance by the admission committee via channels like Telegram, Whatsapp and Email. These channels were also open to the candidates for raising individual concerns. I am privileged to have secured admission in Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management – IIT Bombay and am really excited for my journey ahead after this.
Due to the current pandemic situation almost all the management colleges had to restrict their interview phase of admission, online. While most of the colleges simply conducted video call interviews, a few of them stood out with their process. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay took a step in different direction to make the entire interview process not only innovative but also interactive and fun.
I am delighted to share my interview experience at SJMSOM through this post. My slot for the personal interview was scheduled on 6th March 2021 in the afternoon session. Use of the "Gather" platform provided a feel of the offline experience, just like being on the campus and looking around (which was not possible because of the current pandemic). We entered the auditorium of the platform and were addressed by few seniors, who gave a briefing about the process for the day. Each panel had a student strength of around 15 to be interviewed and we were assigned with one mentor to guide us for the entire interview process.
I was sixth in line for the personal interview. As soon as I entered the interview room, I was greeted by two alumni ( A1 and A2) and one professor at SJMSOM.
ADCOM of SJMSOM created a platform named gather which was the best experience till now. This platform gave the experience similar to that of offline interviews. One of the best amazing innovation I have ever seen.
