My name is Anshu Arya. Currently, I am Part of the PGP 2018-20 Batch at IIM Raipur; I am a newcomer here. As I arrived at the campus of IIM Raipur, I felt a sensation of ‘change’, all around me, and also within myself.
What will you do if you get a chance to spend a day in the life of a student at IIM Udaipur?
The initial days in the campus were filled with rigour and deadlines to get us acquainted with the system. The few hours of the day used to be filled with lectures from renowned faculties, and the remaining time went off in completing projects and deadlines. During this period, we had sessions over team building, design thinking, and creativity. These lectures were a part of the initiation into the system. In team building, all of us new students entering the first year collaborated over team building games. Through operating dynamic strategies based on situation and understanding the strength and weakness and giving importance to entire team instead of working as an individual, we were able to accomplish the given task. Multiple team building exercises were performed during the period, which enabled the batchmates to get acquainted with each other, bond over games, as well as, understand the value of the team and working together. In one of the exercises, we were provided with the task of juggling multiple objects between the team from end to end in minimum time wherein in case even if one object falls off from any member’s hand in the entire team; the exercise had to be repeated. After several failures, we picked up the required trick. It did not need agility amongst members but cooperation and coordination amongst them for the success. Post which another exercise was performed for further team building and team bonding enhancement whereby human knots and crosses were played with the division of classmates in two groups, i.e. knots and cross with number allocation to each group member. This game was based on the agility, the presence of mind, as well as member coordination as teams through on spot planning, were supposed to form either diagonal or a straight line for themselves as well as had to make sure that the other group isn’t able to make it successfully. Lastly, a game was played wherein the human chains were made and wherein every person of the group had to navigate and reach endpoints, with several simultaneous groups moving toward their endpoint at the same moments. But, the crux lay in when every group operated individually without considering the others in the entire structure. It led to the creation of knots and dead-end. It was only when everyone working together with the individual contribution that every person was able to reach the target successfully. The entire day was memorable and served as icebreakers for the students who from being strangers converted into teammates and friends.
