“When you really desire something from the heart and soul, all the universe conspires you to achieve it" written by Paulo Coelho in the Alchemist. When I first read this, I thought how would this be possible. How can we just merely think about something and the universe will give it back to us. And then I got a chance to try my luck at CAT and fulfil my dream to pursue masters from one of the premier institutes in the country.
My grand-father always used to tell me stories about his childhood days. How back in the days children used to carry books in jute bags , attended classes under Neem trees, walked their way to schools, etc. Although things change with time but he didn't appreciate all the changes and being a kid I never understood his concerns. When I first read about global warming, the first thought that came to my mind was that “it is just a theoretical concept and nothing like this could ever happen”. But as I learned more about it I understood the seriousness of the problem and was able to understand my grand father’s concerns. I decided to do something about it but what can I, as an individual do about it when majority of the people around me are not even aware about it.
I was 9 years old, then my grandfather used to walk me around our under-construction house. I used to run around, jump over some bags, which had a bright red-yellow logo on it. Something, that after so many years, has still stayed in my head. Those were Ultratech cement bags and the logo on the sides was the Aditya Birla Group logo. Just like it has that logo left an unforgettable impression in a child’s mind, Aditya Birla Group has made a very strong and positive reputation in various fields like non-ferrous metals, construction, textiles, fashion, telecommunication and financial services.
Day in and out, Week in week out, the chyme that resonated in my ears frequently, incessantly and above all was the one I had a pure admiration to, none other than our own…Indian born, internationally acclaimed, Aditya Birla Group! As the name echoed, the tunes of humility came along and when jotted down said….
The first thing that comes to my mind when I look at the Aditya Birla Group logo are the iconic brands: Van Heusen, Vodafone Idea. I will briefly talk about my interesting experiences with the brands.
Van Heusen -
For me, Van Heusen stands for class. It all started when I was out of school, and out of uniforms. Coming from a traditional Indian family, I was expected to attend wedding ceremonies of my close relatives and help out in the proceedings regularly. One particular wedding experience makes me remember Van Heusen distinctly.
As the popular saying goes, “If you want to go ahead, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together.” Aditya Birla Group has taken India to new heights since the past 162 years. Being India’s third largest conglomerate, it is no surprise that we are surrounded by its product which has made people’s lives easy and comfortable. In fact, I am writing this article on a hotspot delivering Idea’s 4G, wearing a T shirt and a pair of trousers bought from a Pantaloons outlet from a mall, sitting inside a building made of Ultratech cement along with some metals of Hindalco Industries. Well my wardrobe is not just restricted to that, most of my formal outfits are from some or the other ABG’s inhouse brands like Louis Philippe, Van Heusen or Peter England. I feel safe and secured as I have my health insurance done by one of the subsidiaries of Aditya Birla Capital. As I am a student of management in India, I have plans of buying a car of my own, for which I would be relying on ABG’s lending mechanism. ABG has integrated itself with the lives of people so well that it cannot be replaced in the years to come. Apart from utilities, ABG’s presence in financial services has made a mark on India as well as on the world. Like every other aspect of life, there are ups and down in my life as well. At a very early stage of my life, I lost my father to an accident and he left us with my mother and a younger sister. I was in class 12th and had my career lined up ahead of me. I cleared my board exams and my extended family which lived in Jaipur, started pushing us to move to Jaipur and they thought we would be unable to manage in Delhi. We moved to Jaipur, but my mother who is a yoga therapist was not able to run her business well as she used to do in Delhi. Even the quality of education was not up to the mark. Since we were always used to being self-dependent, we made a collective choice of moving back to Delhi. Every member of the family was against us and we too, did not have a concrete plan in place. But we had a hope that we will be able to manage ourselves in such a hard time and will be able to break all barriers of orthodoxy. Integrity and commitment helped us make this tough transition seamlessly. From then on, we have flourished and now I am at a stage to present this story of mine through a platform provided by ABG, to voice out my story to a wide range of audience and send out a message to each and every person in this country that, if one truly follows his or her passion, he/she can speed up the process of their growth manifolds. A clear vision with a strong value and belief system can make all the difference. We, the leaders of tomorrow, will make this Earth a better place to live.
Aditya Birla Group, an Indian group of companies older than the country itself has been deeply ingrained in our lives from telecom and IT services to textile and financial services.
