The campus is spread across 193 acres in the outskirts of Indore on hilly region giving a beautiful scenic view throughout the campus at various locations. The evenings take you to the sunset point to the enjoy the day coming to an end and then the Indore skyline at night to fill you with peace. The campus is a hub for flighted birds of all kinds, and if you’re lucky, you might even get to spot a few rabbits running around, apart from the regular sightings of squirrels and sparrows. The campus is full of biodiversity and you will be amazed at the new sightings every day. The architecture of the academic building in a semi-circular the shape makes it easy to reach out to any section instantly. The latest addition to the campus life is the weekly screening of new Bollywood releases in the auditorium. The campus houses a state of the art sports complex with provisions for a gym, aerobics centre, squash and lawn tennis court. The jewel in the crown is perhaps the Olympic size swimming pool with provisions for coaching as well. For the foodies all night, we have night mess to fill in your hunger so that you can work at any time.
Where should I start? I still remember my first day at IIM Indore. The campus is built in the middle of the industrial area Pithampur. The first thing one notices while entering IIM Indore is the huge gates. While entering it gives you the feeling of like entering a palace. You could feel you belong to one of the prime institutes of India. The rest includes classy hostels, cool professors, greeneries, birds and list goes on and on.
There are multiple things that make IIM Indore special be it the beautiful campus it has, the faculty, multiple parties we have and the humongous amount of learning we get, not only to excel in our professional world but which leads us to become more responsible citizens.
Udaipur, the city of lakes or the Venice of the East, is a wonderful place and indeed a scenic beauty. The campus – a 300-acre campus built on the Aravali Range of mountains – is like a painting. The serenity and calmness, a positive atmosphere, a breathtaking view from the top of the hostels and mess, makes you fall in love with the place. Designed by one of the country’s best architectural firms, it has the growth potential which knows no bounds. The design enhances peer learning and removes any monotony that one might experience in academics. Which brings me to one of the most important values of IIMU, academic excellence. IIM Udaipur believes in preparing its students to be a leader in the corporate world, with an immense focus on education. The rigour comes directly from the Director of the Institute, who’s dedication shows in the active part he takes in the educational activities. The students of IIMU also get nothing short of the best when it comes to the teaching faculty. In addition to the 45+ visiting faculties, the institute has 41 full-time faculty members, all of whom have earned PhDs or are Fellows at top schools in India, Europe, and North America. A lack of resources will never be a hurdle for students at IIMU. The institute makes sure that students have access to every academic resource possible. In addition, they have complete access to the Bloomberg lab. Also, the library is not limited by the number of books it can store in the physical realm. Students have access to a number of databases like CRISIL, Thomson Reuters, Eikon, Capitaline and many more. The most sought-after periodicals are just a click away for the students here. Giving global exposure to its students is something IIM Udaipur is dedicated to. To that extent, initiatives taken by the Institute are Student Exchange Program (STEP) and an elective of International Business in Practice (IBP). Almost half the batch of the 2nd year of post-graduate gets to travel abroad to work with companies from countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and the UAE, and gain first-hand experience of working on internationally based projects. Students have the opportunity to spend a whole trimester in France or Germany in some of the reputed management schools which have partnered with IIM Udaipur as part of the student exchange program. About 10% of the batch gets to participate in the program. In addition to this, students also get an opportunity to be placed in summer internships in international locations.
Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar has certainly made its mark in excellence for being in the top elite colleges in the country. It’s been two weeks since I have joined college and I already have been baffled by the quality and quantity of the curriculum. What intrigued me more was that most of it was carried out by the students, i.e. our seniors. The amount of time and energy they put in polishing us like grains out of hay is phenomenal, which already reflects their holistic, practical and personal development in managing, taking responsibility, leadership and many more. Another thing not to miss out is our faculty pool with qualifications from elite colleges around the globe. The plethora of working in group assignments and getting to work with people from diverse backgrounds is pretty amazing. It made me have a broader spectrum of various things in life after knowing about the challenges faced by each one of them hailing from different backgrounds. Not to forget the green and clean, eco-friendly campus loaded with trees that is a puff of fresh air whenever we walk around on the campus or take something that we call X-Walk here. Yes, interestingly everything starting from quizzes to societies to walks come along with exemplification of every word with “X” like X-FIN, XWALK, XFRIENDS, etc. XIMB is known to have a culture which promotes holistic development in the truest sense of the word, and now I can see why. It’s been two weeks, and I am already used to sleeping for few hours because the aura of completion and race among everyone keeps me up. Every morning I wake up more focused. It is known to have a legacy which promotes sports and culture alongside academics. Apart from all this XIMB also has something called JLTs which is the fun side of it, which is social gatherings and celebrations which is a break from all these day to day competitions, buzz and racing curriculum. Xpressions, XIMB is known to be the biggest fest of eastern India with a footfall of more than 20,000 people from all over the country. It has everything to offer from top celebrities of the country to showcase of extreme talent from contestants which overall builds its charm in itself. Last but of course not the least, I was overwhelmed with something called the Social Responsibility committee here that takes care of education and needs of the unprivileged workers, ”Mess Bhainas” (who manage to get a smile on our faces by adding a piece of extra sweet during lunch), their children.
It is always tough for a GEM (General, Engineer, Male) to decide which B-school to get in with a CAT percentile in the 90-95 range. With baby IIMs emerging from grass-root and other B-schools already making a mark, the decision was fluctuating as to join which B-school. Some even said getting into an IIM can give you that tagline and will be beneficial for the future run. After analysis of all of them, I made my final decision to join Xavier’s Institute Of Management, Bhubaneswar. It is one of the oldest B-schools with a legacy of 31 golden years. It is located in the heart of Bhubaneswar, within an arm’s reach from eateries, malls, hotels etc. Being residential college, it offers the best campus life for everyone. Be it birthdays, festivals or events, everyone remembers every moment. With rigorous academic schedule, small deadlines and lots of activities, it makes a perfect B-school to emerge as a manager. The B-school has active alumni connect which makes it easier during placements. My seniors from have said that these 2 years in XIMB will go like a blink of an eye, there will be good and bad and not to on regret them. XIMB gives a blend of working with the work experience grads and the freshers from different background: Science, Arts, Economics etc. Being a localite, it gives me an added advantage of knowing different places and helping out my friends. The seniors here have a crucial role in grooming since they furnish us with their experience. The faculty here is an A-class compared to other B-schools. They make it easier for us to understand concepts deeply with the tight schedule. With continuous quizzes, classroom discussion and exams, it is easier for me to keep in touch with the books apart from engaging in co-curricular activities. Thus, it is not the college or tagline that speaks, it’s the way we nurture ourselves for management that shows others where we are from. Proud to be an XIMBian.
