Situated on the outskirts of a bustling city, IIM Indore is a temple of MBA learnings and more so, of their practical applications. The campus is abuzz with activities occurring throughout the day and night, with classes, clubs and committees planning their next big event, fest co-ordination, practices of special interest groups, etc. The list goes on and on (and so do the never-ending stairs!).
The campus of IIM Indore, popularly known as planet@I, is one of the best things I have come across in my life. The distinctiveness according to its location, landscape, area and everything is something that all the members of planet@I take pride in. In fact, every resident of the whole city are gratified about how frequently we make it to the list of most beautiful campuses in India (keeping in mind that the town also have an IIT at the outskirts!:P) It’s a huge 196 acres campus, so there’s always something new to find and explore. Situated in Rau, it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city, while that’s inconvenient at times, it makes for amazing night skies and star gazing, thereby releasing your stresses and frustrations from daily hectic agenda. Built over a hill, it is often called as “the hillock that doesn’t sleep” and after spending one year here, I can vouch for that. A night tour of the campus in monsoons is a mixture of feelings of romanticism and fear of snakebites! Yes, you can indeed call it a bio-diversified campus with close to 50 bird species, 7 snake species, a family of foxes, hares, rabbits, mongoose, cats, bats, and many – many – many species of lizards, chameleons, crabs, butterflies, spiders, flies, moths, and other insects! If you are lucky enough, you can come across our national bird here, although you don’t have to be that lucky to encounter two of the big four venomous varieties of snakes!!! All these have been very exciting for me, as I remember during my initial days here I used to get excited even by seeing a duck; but now, after experiencing all these, I’m like ‘what the duck’! IIM Indore Campus Life is an opportunity for making new friends, doing meaningful conversations with friends, the people you meet, the connections and bonds you make, you’ll cherish them for a long time if not forever. It’s a cliché perhaps, but living with your friends (mind you, the best minds of the country!) on a campus, creates a bond that you really can’t measure or quantify. Another one of the unique features of IIM Indore is the Saturday movie screening. Every new movie release is screened in the auditorium for the community, which works as a stress buster from the busy schedule and also saves a portion of our pocket money!
As my Uber hit the highway, the silhouette of a dome appeared in the distant horizon. Adorned with glittering lights and the drizzle playing around the orange glare, it almost looked surreal. On a moist July evening, I first laid eyes on this place I now call home - Planet I.
A venerable poet (SRK in Om Shanti Om) once said, “If you desire something from the core of your heart, the whole universe conspires to help you achieve it!”
It was April 19, 2018, another normal hot and humid day in Chennai which changed my life. Yes, I have cleared my interview processes and have been officially declared fit to be a part of the 30 years old legacy with a tag XIMBian. This happiness turned into controlled excitement until June 18th, 2018 when I was formally on-boarded into my college and course. Once after coming in, I realised that whatever research I did regarding my college was all not just facts but emotions of people here.
It was 1.30 PM on a hot Sunday afternoon, my flight landed in Bhubaneswar. I was finally going to the place which I'll call as my home for the next two years. I’ll be honest, when I first got to know that initially, I was a little apprehensive about how I am going to adapt to the city, coming from a place like Delhi. But, boy how did this city and especially the XIMB campus surprise me.
Apart from taking MBA admission tests, choosing the right college is another crucial aspect of this admission process. XIMB is one of the most prestigious B-School in India with over 30 years of legacy. It comes under Xavier University, Bhubaneswar. Starting from my undergrad days when I started preparing for MBA entrance tests, I got to know about XIMB. Since then it has been one of my dream colleges I wanted to pursue MBA. With a lot of my seniors and batch mates are Alumni of this college, my dream has never gone down. With some work experience, I am finally here at XIMB to live my dream. Start of Xpedition!
My journey from entrance exams to the XIMB campus has been a roller coaster ride. The joy of securing good scores in some and the disappointment of not being up to scratch in others heralded a journey of self-retrospection and analysis which would finally end in a decision that would shape my career. During my aspiring days, my list of target colleges was grand and the choices. As per my scores, I had pretty good options in front of me. As microeconomics puts it, I had to make a rational choice with the options I had that would maximise my satisfaction. So, I had to take a decision which sure was not easy. It never is because you don’t know the opportunity cost of this decision of yours. But still, I had to weigh in on different parameters, had to inquire with past students, take counselling about which institute would be best for me according to my strengths. Finally, I made a decision to join XIMB which I have not regretted. I have always believed in the power of association because association with the people better than you makes you better. So, I wanted to join a B school which exudes class and class is something that does not come by itself, rather, it is built over time by the students and their achievements. XIMB with more than 30 years of glorious history has built an unparalleled legacy and I wanted to be a part of this legacy. XIMB is known for its academic rigour and its distinguished faculty. Combine this with quality students which makes XIMB stand tall and apart from other institutions. I simply could not pass on the opportunity to join one of the leading brands of the country. I think I was destined to be a part of XIMB fraternity and I am glad that after a lot of uncertainties I finally ended up here.
