A Change - TAPMI

A Change - TAPMI

During my engineering days also I had to live in a hostel and when my parents went back after dropping me off on the very first day a of my college I felt sick and suffered from high fever. I had no friends, no vehicle and did not even knew a single doctor in my area and being an introvert person I was I went all alone to the doctor and vomited at the clinic twice. I felt helpless had no one to guide or support me as everyone else was also trying to get accustomed to the place.

A brand is a lot more than a product to most people. It carries with it a connotation of custom, trust and reliability. But in some cases it goes even beyond that and stands for memories and emotions -defining and poignant.

Pocketful of Sunshine- TAPMI

Pocketful of Sunshine- TAPMI

The rays of the rising sun hit my face as I begin a new day at TAPMI, Manipal. I resort to my handy albeit less nutritious (my mother's protest of disapproval in my head is almost as loud as the sound of my roommate's alarm) breakfast option, the stock of biscuits and muffins I hoarded on my previous weekly visit to the grocery store. I freshen up for the day ahead: Financial Accounting, followed by a Guest Lecture, which required us to dress in business formals. I put on my Allen Solly suit, slip into my Van Heusen shoes and (make my way to class).

ABG - An unforgettable part of my life - TAPMI

ABG - An unforgettable part of my life - TAPMI

It is so difficult for me to not associate Aditya Birla Group (ABG ) with myself every day. “First impression is the best impression”, I believe in this proverb and what more would I need to impress anyone than wearing clothes from the brands like Van Heusen, Forever 21, Louis Philippe, Peter England, Allen Solly etc. I am so obsessed with the quality standards of these brands. The comfort, the confidence that builds within is inexpressible through words. Almost 90% of my clothes are from these brands only. It has become a habit for us to shop clothes of these brands. It has not just stayed with me alone, I insist my friends and relatives to buy clothes only from these brands as I have a deep connection with it. ABG has not been with me in clothes category alone. ‘’What an idea sir ji’’ was a brilliant advertisement which drew my attention and made me buy the SIM for my whole family. Having IDEA SIM, it never failed to help me get connected with my friends and family from all the locations that I have traveled so far. After merging with Vodafone, I am now proud to be one of the customers of the largest telecom company. Having faced so many natural disasters like tsunami in 2004, flood in 2015 in Chennai, walls of my home have never got damaged in any case. The reason??? The cement that we have used is so strong to withstand for so many years. Inquiring about the same, I found the cement to be the UltraTech. Then I realised, most of the things are from ABG. To my surprise, it is not the end here with ABG. The groceries!!! Where does my mother buys from??  From the supermarket named MORE. Which again is part of ABG. We just do not leave any ABG product if found. One of my best friends, was about to travel to Mumbai in train from Chennai, during which his mother was packing his food wrapping them with foil papers. As a teenager who loves playing cricket, I started crushing those foils to make a ball to play with. As one roll finished, I wanted to open another set of roll. When I got the new roll, I saw surprised to see ABG logo there on the left top corner and then I googled it and found that Freshwrapp is a part of ABG. Right from clothes, food, SIM Cards, cement of our house, everything is from one of the brands of ABG. I realized that these cannot be coincidences at all. It is beyond that. Like an ocean and a fish, such is the depth of bond between my family and the ABG.

Knight in Shining Armour and Luck-TAPMI (ABG)

As a child I was always fascinated with father donning well-pressed pant and shirt every morning to attend his work. For me, it was like a knight in a shining armour who is ready to go out and conquer the world, and I also desired that soon I’ll also get to don that armour.  As I entered my adulthood carrying the same image of my father going office, my instincts at any shopping centre and were to search for my shining armour, leading me to the stores of Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England and Louis Phillips.

The story from Fumble to Fluency-Universal Language -TAPMI

While my challenge may not look glaring and hard to counter. But for me it was one of the most difficult and most visible one. I was never labelled with that but was always judged, that is the difficulty in speaking English. I remember the initial difficulties when, where to put ‘His’ and ‘Her’ was a Nightmare and speaking English seemed to me like a tongue twister. Though I studied in an English medium school, English was the weakest part since I used to fumble a lot and was not able to frame the sentences. English at the time I was growing was seen as a symbol of style, modernity and a status symbol. I use to see how celebrities and people of the corporate world used to speak English and it made me feel like I was  inferior. There were many instances where I liked English being used but was never able to replicate the same. For example- I liked pop but I cant sing. Since the lyrics were in English and that too fast. And the time when my teacher used to ask for Roll Number wise reading and it seemed as I was bracing for a war which is just about to happen, Sweating and fumbling.
